Ludwig Bindernagel’s Crémant du Jura ‘Délire des Lyres’ is a rare breed of sparkling wine.  This is a vintage cuvée that doesn’t get made every year… but we sure wish it did!  It’s hands-down one of my favorite sparklers from anywhere, and a bottle I’d grab to enjoy before most Champagnes.

At Paris Wine Company, we have literally hand picked this wine for you.  Josh, Francesca, and I have all worked harvest at Chais du Vieux Bourg and helped personally pick the grapes from Le Vernois vineyard, vine by vine, that go into this very bottle!

One of the most charming things about the Jura is that while it’s off the well beaten tourist path through France, there’s an abundance of possibilities when it comes to food and wine.  While the rich Jura white wines are often reserved for the main course, one learns quickly during harvest that Ludwig’s Crémant is perfect for everything else!  Brunch with it over a porcini and comté omlette, ease into the afternoon with a glass over a game of chess, or enjoy it as an apéritif with some terrine.

Made from 30-year-old Chardonnay vines (with the odd clusters of Savagnin and Pinot Noir that have snuck into the rows of vines), the ‘Délire des Lyres’ is complex with citrus flavors, acidity, vinous bubbles, and a bone-dry finish (zero dosage).  And, what made us really délire about this particular bottling?  The base wine is from 2010 - a vintage notorious for its balance and ageing potential.  We first tasted this release last fall, over a harvest dinner when Ludwig disgorged a bottle for us on a whim, and we’ve been begging him for an allocation ever since.

Harvest comes but once a year… and this crémant... even less often.  Grab this one while you can.
