Writing about Morey Saint Denis in 1855, famed Burgundian observer Dr. Lavallé wrote,”It can be said that it lacks nothing". Sandwiched between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, the best Morey can also be a happy medium between the two neighboring terroirs: combining the light finesse of Gevrey-Chambertin, the richer denseness of Chambolle-Musigny. Within the appellation, the "Les Ruchots" premier cru stands out : it's just a stone's throw away from famed Grand Cru, Clos de Tart, and shares the same soil type!  If you love Pinot Noir and have Grand Cru taste on a Premier Cru budget, this is a great introduction to some seriously refined Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits.

Based in Morey Saint Denis, winemaking at the Domaine des Beaumont is classic, and straightforward: when you have vineyards this great, all you have to is grow the best quality fruit and you don't intervene in the cellar. Grapes are destemmed and lightly pressed, fermentation is with natural yeast, and aged in barrel for 12 to 18 months in 60% new oak, then bottled unfiltered.

My tasting notes read : "blackberries, dense fruit, yum." But if I were going to elaborate further...this is a rich, but balanced red burg, with ripe, dark fruit aromas and the slightest hint of pepper on the nose. A long, but surprisingly light, finish makes it eminently gluggable. As of our tasting in September 2016, these wines were already ready to be enjoyed, but expect to age them for easily 8-10 years more. We're offering a three pack so you can open one now, and the other two at different points down the road.
To paraphrase Dr. Lavallé: this wine lacks nothing!
